Through my various job experiences, internships, and classes, I have learned skills in both psychology and media and journalism that I plan to take with me as I enter the workforce. Below are some of my previous work samples that showcase my creative growth in media and journalism.

Graphics

About This Graphic

I created “The Carolina Inn Infographic” for my MEJO 121 (Intro to digital Storytelling ) class to help inform the public about one of the landmark monuments on UNC Chapel Hill’s campus, The Carolina Inn. I used Canva to create the infographic in an easy-to-read format that the general audience could easily understand. I incorporated several images from the Inn’s history, important figures that have visited The Carolina Inn, and a timeline for the readers to understand the Carolina Inn’s deep history.

About This Graphic

In the summer of 2024, I worked for a women-owned startup company in Wilmington, North Carolina. As their marketing intern, I frequently made social media posts, calendars, and story content like the graphic above to help the company gain a greater following!

About AMTRAK graphic

I created this graphic for a Mejo 137 class (Principles of Advertising/PR) in which I was tasked to come up with a campaign to re-invent AMTRAK for young adults in Gen Z. In the assignment, we were asked to come up with a campaign slogan and multiple visualizations for how we could market AMTRAK for Gen Z.

To do this, I thought the best angle to target Gen Z would be through the love pitch. In an overly digital era, it can be hard to meet people and connect. However, that is what makes trains so appealing – trains are meant to be old-school. They are meant to facilitate connection – which is why I came up with the campaign slogan “Hop on the love train” as a way to encourage Gen Z to take trains so that they can connect with new people and build new relationships.

I created a digital advertisement on Canva to be promoted on popular Gen Z platforms like Tinder, Hinge, and Instagram, and encourage those looking for love to take trains.

Video Projects

In my media and journalism classes, I have had the incredible opportunity to experiment with my digital storytelling skills and learn how to utilize editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro to create video projects. Here are some of the previous stories I have covered in class…

About “Inn For It” with Laila Caines

I created this video project, titled “Inn for it with Laila Caines,” for a MEJO 121 class to showcase the life of a working student. This story is centered around Laila Caines, a current senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who graduated in Fall 2025. She studied Peace, War, and Defense with the hope of pursuing a career in accounting after graduating. She recently was accepted into the Chapel Hill Master’s program for accounting (MAC program) and will have an internship with Deloitte in the spring 2025!

Through this video project, I learned how to use Adobe Premiere Pro to assemble footage in a cohesive way and tell a story. For this project, I conducted an interview, collected additional B-roll, and incorporated natural sounds and narration into the edit.

About “Surviving Survivor with Alexis Powell”

I created this video project for my MEJO 121 digital storytelling class, in which I needed to follow someone’s story. This project, called “Surviving Survivor with Alexis Powell,” is centered around the co-founder and vice president of the Survivor Carolina Club at UNC Chapel Hill. Alexis Powell is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill graduating in Spring 2026, she is majoring in Advertising and Public Relations with the Hussman Media and Journalism School, with hopes of working in production fields after college.

In the video, we discuss Alexis’ motivations behind starting the club and the elaborate production efforts involved in creating the college-level show. Alexis plans to use her experiences in survivor to pursue other creative video projects after graduating.

HTML

Through my education at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, I have learned extensive tools to assist me with website building.

For example, in my MEJO 121 (Introduction to Digital Storytelling) class, we were tasked with creating a webpage at the beginning of the year using the Tarheels.live platform. Then, later in the semester, we were asked to generate the same website using HTML and CSS coding to adjust the page and design templates. This assignment challenged me to think intentionally about the creative elements involved in each of my webpages and how I can recreate them using written code! I hope to take these skills with me beyond UNC Chapel Hill.

These are the the pictures from my original site that I created using Tarheels.live

About the Tarheels.live site

These pictures above are from my original Tarheels.live site that I later recreated using HTML and CSS. The site was centered around the Carolina Inn and detailed the Inn’s rich history and significance to the Chapel Hill community.

Below are the pictures from my recreated facsimile website – I used HTML and CSS to generate a website similar to the original Tarheels.live site that I made earlier in the semester.

About the Facsimile

The pictures above are from my experience creating the facsimile website of my original Tarheels.live site. The website (on the left), is designed to look very similar to my original Tarheels.live site, with the same content and style. However, rather than using Tarheels.live to generate the website, I used HTML/CSS (on the right) to restructure the website and add new stylistic elements. This project also taught me how to using domains, hosting, and rewrite HTML pathways to allow for a fully functioning website.

Posts & Social Media

Beyond my experiences at UNC Chapel Hill – I have also been involved in media production and have learned valuable advertising skills that I hope to utilize throughout my career. Below are some samples of previous Instagram content I have made in my various roles:

Bikini Baubles

In the Summer of 2024, I got the honor of working with a women-owned startup company in Wilmington, NC. As a new company, they needed a social media intern to help increase their presence and gain a greater following for their company. Bikini Baubles is a family-operated business that creates handmade bikini jewelry for swimsuits. The jewelry is hypoallergenic, tarnish-resistant, and hand-crafted by the company’s founder. As an intern here, I assisted in product creation, created daily social media content, acted as a photographer’s assistant, and negotiated with clients to sell products. Below are some of the Instagram content I created for the company as their intern.

Here is a reel that I created using CapCut software!

The Euro-Diaries

While studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I created a video blog for my friends and family to follow along with my journey! My friends and I shared an Instagram account, and I made our content before posting it on our shared Instagram profile. This allowed my friends and I to share our journeys with each other and our friends.

Survivor Carolina

As the President of Survivor Carolina, I lead advertising campaigns and promotions each season to help us gain a greater following, more Survivor applications, and increase our presence on Chapel Hill’s campus. I have created several reels to help promote survivor Carolina, with most of the reels gaining over 10k viewers.
